About Dan
Dan has been the Artistic Director and CEO of award winning Cardiff pub-theatre, The Other Room, since 2017.
At the age of 26, Dan was appointed as one of the youngest Artistic Directors of a producing house in the whole of the UK. Since then, Dan has built a reputation for pipelining and taking risks on new talent, developing a distinct style of Welsh language / bilingual theatre, and leading Wales’ smallest theatre through the COVID-19 pandemic and the financial crisis that followed.
As well as being an award winning theatre director, Dan is a cultural leader with a firm grasp of the economic and political landscape of the arts in Wales and beyond. He leads with kindness and a level-head, is guided by a belief in democratic decision making, the power of quality, the necessity of balance, and the importance of theatre as a vehicle for change.
Born and raised in the Swansea Valley, before studying at the University of Exeter, Dan remains a passionate working-class Welsh speaker, who is outward looking, deeply curious and a lover of stories. Be it a Charity Commission report, a piece of new writing, or a project with young people, Dan approaches his work with rigour and creativity and cherishes collaboration.
